Job Description (Roles and Responsibilities)

UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) Dubai invites applications for the position of Trade & Investment Officer – Grade A2 (L).

Objective:


Based in Dubai, the successful candidate will work closely with the Trade and Investment Advisor in the Education & Skills Sector.


The successful candidate will be line managed by the Trade & Investment Advisor. Their role will be to ensure that UK companies considering exporting their goods or services to the UAE are provided with high-quality information and support to be able to make an informed judgement about whether this is a suitable market for their products: it also offers support to identify companies based in the UAE who are well-placed to make high quality investments into the UK.


This position will have a key role in enabling greater trade between the UK and the UAE which is a high-growth emerging market for UKTI.


Main Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Assisting the Trade Advisor to ensure that the UKTI team provides first class support to UK companies looking to do business in the UAE, facilitate partnerships, tap into high value opportunities and support the UK Gulf Strategy in the education and skills sector.

  • Carrying out market research on behalf of UK companies in the UAE and organising events. This is a chargeable service and there is an overriding need for accuracy and meeting deadlines agreed with customers. The research will involve meeting companies on the ground in Dubai and Abu Dhabi and promoting the customers’ business. Part of this research will also include researching the press, websites and attending local exhibitions.

  • Making arrangements for official visitors to Dubai/UAE. Arrangements usually involve a programme of appointments, social events and transport. Work on such visits usually requires working with local authorities and Government.

  • Participation in the arrangements for visiting UK trade missions and inward missions to the UK including administrative arrangements and contributions to briefing packs, attendance at briefings/events and highlighting areas of opportunity in the UAE to members of the mission.

  • Responding to enquiries from local companies and identifying, posting and responding to export opportunities on the UKTI Website.

  • Meeting visiting UK businesspeople when required and briefing them. This will include background on the UAE, advice on setting up business here, and sector-specific information.

  • Visiting local companies in the UAE as and when required to keep abreast of business opportunities and developing contacts.

  • Recording data on our database and on the UKTI worldwide Customer Data Management System database.

  • On occasion, attending out of hours social networking functions.

  • Processing of purchase requisitions using Oracle.

  • To take part in the Embassy emergency planning and any response to a Crisis affecting UK citizens.

Essential qualifications and experience
Minimum Qualifications:

Essential:


  • Exceptional planning and organisational skills, the ability to work independently, apply initiative, problem solve and work under pressure to meet multiple and changing priorities, deadlines and objectives.

  • Confident when dealing with senior government officials, visiting VIPs and high level private sector contacts.

  • Excellent team player with the ability to take a wider perspective.

  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills.

  • Computer literacy in all Microsoft Office packages and accurate typing skills.

Desirable qualifications and experience


  • Arabic language skills (written and spoken) whilst not essential, are an advantage.

  • Previous experience of working for a trade promotion agency is also an advantage.

Working Hours and Remuneration:


The Embassy aims to offer an attractive working environment and remuneration package for this role, including: non-negotiable salary of AED 10,130 per month inclusive, Grade A2 (L); performance bonus, five weeks vacation per annum, free on-site parking and free access to on-site swimming pool, gymnasium and sports facilities.


No accommodation or relocation expenses are payable in connection with this position .


Conditioned working hours are 38 hours per week. Standard working hours are from 07.30 am until 2.30 pm on Sunday to Thursday. However, the successful candidate may be required to work outside normal working hours.
